One of the world's largest manufacturers of homecare and extended care products needed a system to increase the production of wheelchair side frames. The current process included multiple unreliable drilling fixtures requiring excess operator hours and manually installing tube bushings. The system needed to increase their throughput by at least 25%.

Wheel Chair Fatigue Test Machine.

One of the world's largest manufacturers of homecare and extended care products needed a reliable method of fatigue testing production and prototype wheel chairs per FDA requirements. The test machine needed to have independently driven rollers. Each roller must be able to easily adjust while minimizing the amount of belt re-tensioning. The system must also be able to automatically switch from motor driven rollers to free wheeling rollers without any machine changes.

QED Automation LLC provided a test machine accomplishing all of the required tasks. The provided machine contained a new drive system design that allowed the precise individual positioning of each roller. The intricate chain layout allowed each roller to be adjusted over 30" of travel without the need of any drive tensioning changes. Safety light curtains where utilized to ensure operator safety. The new machine reduced the operator change over time from over 2 hours to less than 15 minutes.
